Hey Open Space types,

We've got a name for the John and Summit fundraising effort: Unpaving Paradise! While we could have gone with "Friends of John and Summit", Unpaving Paradise's catchiness and pop-culture reference (can you place it?) won out.

We're also getting a nifty logo made courtesy of community member and SU student, David Sepulveda. We hope to be able to debut it on flyers and handouts within the next couple of weeks.

More soon,
Open Space Committee

"Unpaving Paradise" reminds me of the Talking Heads song "Nothing But Flowers", except in reverse. In the song, the urban guy is frustrated to watch all the trees and flowers taking over his precious city "as things fell apart"… The song always makes me laugh. Anyway, "Unpaving Paradise" is a great name!

Thanks for the props. The name actually comes from a Joni Mitchell song, but it's cool to find out that it hits more than one pop culture chord.

Park Outreach Opportunity: National Park(ing) Day
Jen PowerJen Power 1218396194|%e %b %Y, %H:%M %Z|agohover

Our first big outreach event is coming up on September 19th. The Open Space Committee will be participating in National Park(ing) Day! You can read more if you follow the links below, but the gist is that community groups occupy a parking space for the day and make it into a mini-park.

Since the OPC will be making it's own park, we'll need people to occupy the park and hand out flyers and we'll need park creating supplies. If you're interested, please email moc.liamg|esidarap.gnivapnu#moc.liamg|esidarap.gnivapnu with the hours you can be at the park or the supplies you're willing to help us get. As many park-sitting volunteers as possible should attend the orientation that is being held this Wednesday by Trust for Public Land.
